The Great Western Railway was a British railway company that linked London with the south west and west of England and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833, received its enabling Act of Parliament in 1835, and ran its first trains three years later.The GWR was known admiringly to some as "God's Wonderful Railway" and jocularly to others as the "Great Way Round", but it gained great fame as the "Holiday Line", taking huge numbers of people to resorts in South West England.
Steam 4-6-0 - Cheshire, United Kingdom, October 07, 1978 - Castle Class no. 7029 Clun Castle reverses past Chester Signal Box with its Pullman support coach. The manoevre was to turn the engine on a triangle to enable it to back onto the carriages of the train it had brought in so as to make the return journey. In the background is 40 106 on the first day that it had been repainted into BR green livery.
Steam 4-6-0 - Chester, United Kingdom, September 22, 1979 - An old shot from 1979 at Chester station. Hall Class no. 4930 Hagley Hall and Black Five no. 5000 reverse with their support coaches onto the carriages to return a main line special to Hereford. These days, both locos are static exhibits and not steamable.
Steam 4-6-0 - Crewe, United Kingdom, September 11, 2005 - GWR no. 5972 Olton Hall on display at the Great Gathering at Crewe Works in 2005. This is the locomotive used in the Harry Potter movies and is painted in a special livery for this. It carries a "Hogwarts Express" headboard.

Steam 4-6-0 - Manchester, United Kingdom, January 25, 2008 - 4936 Kinlet Hall, heading a shuttle service from Bury to Ramsbottom, passes Burrs Country Park at the Winter Steam Event.
