New York Central - EMD E8(A) - Penn Central (ex-PRR) 16th Street Diesel Shop, Chicago, Illinois, June, 1971 - In 1949, EMD introduced the E8 passenger locomotive. Numerous internal improvements, plus an additional 250 H.P. over the E7, made the twin V-12 powered diesel a certain winner. NYC and PRR signed up for large orders of E8's.
