New Haven DL-109
The New Haven Railroad, a pioneer in the diesel field, had American Locomotive Company (ALCO) build 60 dual purpose engines for them between 1941 and 1945. These were designated as DL-109's.
No.0735 is about to depart from Springfield's Union Station for Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut. By 1952 these units along with other types of diesels managed to put steam off the line for good. (PC Photo: Lawson K. Hill)
New Haven's DL-109 Unit Number 0722, on an RRE Fantrip out of Boston via Bridgeport, is viewed at Winsted, Connecticut in 1953. This Unit was the only one so painted for use on "The Cranberry", which operated from Boston to Hyannis, Massachusetts. (PC Photo: Dana Goodwin)
