National Train Day

May 8th, 2010 marks the third annual celebration of National Train Day, we celebrate the occasion with some great train pictures from Bob Krone on Railpictures.Net ----- ENJOY and RIDE THE TRAIN !!!

The National Train Day celebration, sponsored by AMTRAK and others, will have large-scale, family-friendly events that provide opportunities to explore interactive, educational exhibits that bring to life the rich narrative of how trains have transformed America and will continue to do so in the future.

Virginian Railway FM H16-44 - Roanoke, Virginia, November 07, 1958 - We paid a brief visit to the Virginian Railway engine terminal below Mill Mountain after spending the day on the N&W.

Southern Railway EMD E8 - Norfolk and Western - Blue Ridge, Virginia, November 05, 1958 - Southern E8 6910 leads an E7 under the bridge at Blue Ridge with train 45, TENNESSEAN, on a beautiful fall afternoon.

Delaware, Lackawanna & Western EMD F3 - Boonton Line - Paterson, New Jersey, May 01, 1959 - Lackawanna F3 A-B-B-A units lead an eastbound freight past the passenger station. Three color schemes are represented, the trailing A unit is in solid gray which was thankfully not later adapted.

Jersey Central - Baldwin DR 4-4-1500 - Jersey Central main line - Aldene, New Jersey, December 31, 1958 - A nicely matched A-B-A set of Jersey Central "Babyface " Baldwin diesels are about to pass under the Lehigh Valley with a westbound freight.

Erie Railroad EMD F3 - Engine terminal - Secaucus, New Jersey, August 21, 1958 - Erie F3 units 714-D,C,B,A sit alongside FT set 704 at Secaucus. The F3 set was purchased from the defunct NYO&W. Coincidence had it that a friend and I were there that day to photograph the NYO&W FT units stored in the Erie yard.
