Mornflake Cards - Part 2

As promised here is Part 2 - These cards are part of a series of 25, un-numbered Mornflake Oats real photo airplane cards produced in 1953 by Morning Foods Ltd, North Western Mills, Crewe, England. I will post the complete set as the days go on.

The de Havilland Chipmunk is a two-seat civil and military elementary trainer. Some hundreds are on order and already in service overseas. The Chipmunk has one de Havilland Gypsy Major 10 piston engine of 145 h.p. giving it a maximum speed at sea level of 140 m.p.h and the all-up weight is 2,000 lbs.

This photograph is of the Mark T.4 English Electric Canberra, the trainer version of the first 600 m.p.h. bomber. The engines are two Rolls-Royce Avon turbo-jets. In this machine the instructor and pupil pilot are seated side-by-side; in other respects there is very little difference between this and the normal bomber version.

The Percival Provost is a two-seat, side-by-side, fully aerobatic trainer powered by one Alvis Leonides engine of 550 h.p. It is now in production for the R.A.F. It has a maximum speed of 200 m.p.h. at 5,000 ft. and a stalling speed of 66 m.p.h. In designing the Provost much attention has been paid to ease of maintenance and servicing.

The de Havilland Venom is powered by one 5,000 lb. static thrust de Havilland Ghost turbo-jet engine. There are two versions - the single-seat day interceptor and fighter bomber and the Mark II which is a two-seat night fighter with pilot and radar operator seated side-by-side. Yet another version is known as the Sea Venom.

The Saunders-Roe A/1 is the first jet-propelled flying-boat fighter ever built. The two Metro-Vick turbines are mounted side-by-side in the hull and for economical cruising the aircraft can fly on either engine. Both motors have a common air intake in the nose. Armament - four 20mm cannon. The pilot's pressurised cabin is provided with emergency ejection device.
