Joe Davies Heritage Airpark, located in Palmdale is also known as Blackbird Park - Palmdale Plant 42. I try to stop by at least once a year (2010) and found some new additions to the parks ever growing aircraft inventory.
The addition of the T-33 Shooting Star is remarkable. It is probably, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and historic jets ever produced.
This T-33 Shooting Star Trainer is maintained by the Civil Air Patrol Squadron 84 at Edwards Air Force Base.
This is the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star jet fighter version. It was the first operational jet fighter used by the United States Army Air Forces, and saw extensive combat in Korea with the United States Air Force as the F-80. As one of the world's first successful turbojet powered combat aircraft, it helped usher in the "jet age" in the USAF and other air forces worldwide.
The massive Boeing B-52F Startofortress is still in the "Work In Process" display mode, but looking very nice.
Newer versions of the B-52, flying today, have a different nose configuration loaded with state of the art electronics.
It is amazing to think this plane has been around for more than 55 years. Shown here with some serious armament in the tail.
Here is a LINK to a picture of the same Boeing B-52F Stratofortress when it was on display at the Oklahoma City State Fairgrounds.
The most unbelievable jet plane ever built. The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Ground Attack aircraft.
The F-117A's first flight was in 1981, and it achieved Initial Operational Capability status in October 1983. The F-117A was "acknowledged" and revealed to the world in November 1988 and was widely publicized during the Gulf War of 1991.
The Air Force retired the F-117 on 22 April 2008, primarily due to the acquisition and eventual deployment of the more effective F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.
