To tie together Europe's economic growth in the 1950's and 1960's, a high speed network of routes, called the Trans-Europe Express, was created. These international routes were intended to service business travelers who had to reach their destinations quickly, without the usual border delays. This luxury express service was ably provided by the Dutch-Swiss train sets.
The Trans-Europe Express (TEE) trains combined two qualities important to travelers in the 1950's: comfort and efficiency. A flexible suspension and a smooth ride were necessary to attract businessmen accustomed to luxury limousines and airplanes.
